The Doppler Table
Sound in three dimensions
My inspiration for this table came from a graphic representation of the Doppler effect, a trick of the ear that causes the listener to hear a change in sound as the source of that sound passes them. Similarly the contrasting materials used in the table’s top, laid together in lines that reduce in thickness towards the central bar, create an optical illusion that is almost vertiginous and which draws the viewer into the table.
