Charleston
250 years in the making
A couple of years ago I was thrilled to be given three small pieces of wood that came from a barn that was being restored at Charleston House, the former East Sussex country retreat of Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and the Bloomsbury Group of artists and writers. When I made the sculptural element in the lamp I wanted a base that would anchor what I see as a very energetic piece and this simple, largely untouched, 250 year old piece of barn wood was perfect for the job, providing a provenance and local cultural resonance as well.
Specs:
The base is oak as is the spiral, the spine is made from olive ash and the hand turned lamp head is made of spalted sycamore.
